American cultural icon, tom Hanks has given his two cents about comic book movies.

Hanks believes that the new technologies and visual effects have taken over the true essence of a good film. He does not understand the story and purpose of such movies.

The Forrest Gump actor recently starred in the Happy Sad Confused podcast, where he stated: “Remember in the 1970s and ’80s they tried to do TV version of Captain America and Spider-Man? Even Batman, the Adam West one, the technology did not exist to make it look like it did in the comic books and now it does. You can do anything at all.”

He continued saying: “We are now enjoying the luxury of riches and because you can make anything happen on screen now.”

According to The Terminal actor: “We are being brought back to the concept of, ‘Ok that’s true, but what is the story?’”

Tom believes that people descend towards these films in order to see a ‘better version of themselves’.

“We’ve had 20 years to explore that kind of thing, and now we’re in an evolution and place where it’s: And the story is what? The theme is what? The point of this movie is what?”

Besides Tom Hanks, there are many others who have criticized superhero based films including filmmaker David Cronenberg and former comic book hero, Gwyneth Paltrow.
